Everyday household repairs

Most homes collect a list of small jobs that never quite make it to the top of the weekend: a handle that wobbles, a door that catches, a hole left after a fixture comes down. We handle those residential repairs from Fawkner for owner-occupiers, authorised renters and landlords.

The aim is practical workmanship and a clear scope, not a laundry list of extras. If the job needs a licensed electrician, plumber or structural carpenter, we will say so before it is booked.

Handles, hinges and fittings

We tighten, replace and align common household fittings so doors, cupboards and accessories work the way they should. For a sticking door, worn latch or replacement door leaf, see door repairs and internal door replacement for the assessment and fitting details.

  • Cupboard hinges that no longer sit flush
  • Coat hooks, towel rails and bathroom accessories
  • Door handles and latches that have worked loose

Small wall repairs

Picture hooks, door-handle strikes and furniture knocks leave small holes and chips. We can prepare those areas for paint, or leave them ready for a later refresh. For the repair-to-finish options, see plaster repairs and painting.

Picture and mirror hanging

Framed art, gallery walls and heavy mirrors are only as secure as the fixing behind them. We hang pictures and mirrors on plasterboard, brick and timber, choosing a fixing to suit the wall and the weight rather than relying on a single nail.

Heavy mirrors go into studs or masonry, or onto hardware rated for the load. If there is no sound fixing point where you want the piece, we will suggest another position before drilling. Authorised renters should confirm permission for wall fixings first.

  • Framed pictures, canvases and artwork
  • Setting out and levelling a gallery wall
  • Heavy mirrors fixed to studs or masonry
  • Hanging from existing picture rails in older homes

Curtain and blind installation

We install the curtain rods, tracks and blinds you have bought, fixing the brackets into the window reveal, the frame or the wall above, following the manufacturer’s instructions.

Blinds are usually made to measure, so have them delivered before booking and keep the bracket packs and instructions with the boxes. If brackets need to go into brick, render or a metal window frame, mention it when you enquire.

  • Curtain rods and double rods
  • Wall- or ceiling-mounted curtain tracks
  • Roller, Venetian and vertical blinds supplied by you
  • Taking down old rods or blinds before the new ones go up

FAQs

Do you bring tools and fixings?

Yes. Standard hand tools and common fixings are included. Specialty parts may need to be purchased or supplied by you; we will confirm before booking.

Is there a minimum call-out?

We aim to batch small tasks where possible. Your quote will reflect travel, time and materials for your specific job.

Can you do a list of small jobs in one visit?

Yes. Send the full list. Batching handles, hinges and small wall fixes in the same home is usually more efficient than booking them separately.

What should I have ready for picture or mirror hanging?

Have the pieces on site and a rough idea of where each one should go. Tell us the approximate weight of large mirrors, and send photos of the wall and the back of each frame (wire, D-rings or a cleat) so we bring suitable fixings.

What do you need to quote curtain or blind installation?

The number of windows, what is being fitted (rods, tracks or blinds), whether the products have arrived, and a photo of each window showing the reveal and the wall above. Mention any windows over stairs or that need a tall ladder.

Do corded blinds need safety devices?

Yes. In Australia, corded internal blinds and curtains must be installed with cord safety devices that keep loose cords and loops out of reach of young children. We fit the safety devices supplied with the product.
