Residential painting and plaster repairs
A tired living room, a bedroom that needs a new colour, or walls marked after a few years of daily life can make a home feel older than it is. Tradie at Door provides residential painting and plaster repairs for homeowners, authorised renters, landlords and residential property managers in northern Melbourne.
Our painting team handles localised plaster repairs, wall preparation and whole-room repainting. From patching holes and cracks to refreshing tired rooms, we prepare the surfaces and leave a neat finish.

Surface preparation
A smoother finish starts before the first coat. Marks, scuffs and stains are cleaned or treated, loose paint is removed, and the surface is sanded so new paint can key. Skipping prep is how roller marks, flashing and stains telegraph through a fresh colour.
Not every stain disappears completely; some marks need a stain-block primer and an honest conversation about what the finish will hide. Shift furniture into the centre of the room where you can so prep time is spent on the surface.
Plaster repair and patching
Small holes, cracks and knocks are common: picture hooks, door-handle strikes, furniture bumps and settlement hairlines. We patch and sand those areas so they are ready for primer and paint, whether you want a local repair or a full-room refresh afterwards.
We do not treat every crack as cosmetic. If movement looks structural, or the damage is larger than a handyman plaster repair, we will tell you rather than fill over a problem that will reopen.
- Nail and screw holes after pictures come down
- Corner chips in a hallway
- End-of-lease wall marks ready for a consistent finish

Priming, coating and finishing
Once repairs are sanded, we prime where the surface needs it (new filler, bare plaster, or a stain that could bleed), then apply the agreed coats. Cutting in at edges and rolling or brushing the field is how we get an even colour on walls, doors and trims.
A bedroom moving from dark to light usually needs more coverage than a like-for-like refresh. We leave simple guidance on when you can replace furniture or hang pictures again.
Colour and finish considerations
You can supply paint you already have, or we can work from a sample or a retailer colour you nominate. We will not claim a perfect match to a faded, sun-worn wall without a sample.
Finish choice matters as much as colour. A hallway that is wiped often usually wants a more washable finish than a low-traffic bedroom. Tell us how the room is used.
Residential painting scope
This is residential work: houses, townhouses and rental properties. Scope ranges from a patched corner to a whole room when the job is suitable. We do not automatically exclude whole-room repainting.
Typical reasons to call include refreshing a tired living room, changing bedroom colours, covering marks after preparation, repairing small holes and cracks, repainting after other household repairs, preparing a rental for a new tenancy, and painting doors, trims and other agreed surfaces.
If a door catches or its hardware is loose, include door repairs before repainting so adjustments and finishing can be considered in the right order.
For patching alongside an end-of-tenancy repair list, see rental re-let maintenance for the wider residential job scope.
How to prepare for an appointment
Shift furniture away from the walls, take down pictures and blinds if you can, and keep pets out of the work area. If you cannot move heavy pieces, say so in the enquiry.
For a quote, send photos and approximate dimensions of each wall, the number of rooms, and close-ups of stains, holes or cracks. List any doors or trims to include, the colour you have chosen and whether you have matching paint. Mention furniture that cannot be moved and any access restrictions; property managers should include access notes.

FAQs
Do you paint whole rooms, or only touch-ups?
We do both. When the room condition, access and timing are suitable, we quote whole-room repainting as well as localised repairs.
Do you supply the paint?
We can use paint you already have, or work from a sample or a nominated retailer colour. We will confirm what is being supplied before the appointment.
What plaster repairs can you take on?
Small holes, cracks and knocks that are suitable for filler or a plasterboard patch, then priming and painting. If the damage looks structural, we will say so.
How should I prepare the room?
Clear the walls where you can, move furniture into the centre of the room, and take down hanging items. Mention anything you cannot move.
Can you help with rental re-let painting?
Yes. Typical work includes filling small holes, painting out marks after prep, and refreshing walls, doors or trims so the property is ready to show.
