Furniture assembly for northern Melbourne homes

When a wardrobe, bed or desk arrives in boxes, most people do not want a weekend of confusing instructions, missing tools and a half-finished unit. Tradie at Door assembles furniture for homeowners, authorised renters, landlords and residential property managers across northern Melbourne.

We build to the manufacturer’s instructions so units sit square, doors line up and hardware is fitted as intended. That matters when a large wardrobe or heavy panels are too much to manage alone, or when a build has already stalled.

  • A wardrobe still in cartons after a house move
  • A bed frame left unfinished because the instructions were unclear
  • A desk and drawer unit for a new study nook
  • Rental furniture that needs to be built before a tenant moves in

Wardrobes and storage units

Tall panels are heavy, sliding doors need to run true, and a unit that is slightly out of square will catch or bind. We assemble sliding-door robes, drawer towers and hallway cupboards, then fit rails, drawers and doors as the kit intends.

If the instructions call for wall anchoring, we discuss that before we start. Not every wall is suitable for every fixing. We assess the wall type on site rather than assume a bracket will hold.

  • Sliding-door wardrobe with hanging rail and internal drawers
  • Two-door robe that may need anti-tip hardware if the wall allows
  • Chest of drawers or hallway storage cupboard

Beds and bedroom furniture

Bed frames look simple until you are holding a side rail with one hand and an instruction sheet with the other. We assemble frames, headboards and matching bedroom storage so slats sit evenly and the bed is ready to make up.

Tell us if the room is still furnished, if stairs are involved, and whether an old frame needs to come down first. Packaging is tidied as agreed so you are not left with a pile of cartons on the mattress.

  • Queen or king flat-pack bed frame with slat base
  • Bed with under-bed drawers or a storage base
  • Bedside tables and a matching tallboy

Living room furniture and entertainment units

Entertainment units and living-room storage need to sit level, close cleanly and leave cable openings where you actually use the room. We assemble TV cabinets, sideboards and modular storage. If the room also needs TV wall mounting, mention the cabinet position so both tasks can be assessed together.

Tall units with anti-tip hardware are treated as a safety question. We will not claim every plasterboard or masonry wall can take the same fixing.

  • Low TV cabinet or entertainment unit
  • Sideboard or display unit
  • Media unit with cable cut-outs behind a planned TV position

Dining furniture

Dining tables, benches and chair sets are bulky, and hardware is easy to cross-thread. We assemble dining furniture so the table sits steady and chairs are usable the same day.

If a table must be built in the room because the finished piece will not turn a hallway, say so when you enquire.

  • Rectangular or extendable dining table
  • Dining chairs or a bench supplied as a kit
  • Sideboard or bar table for an open-plan kitchen

Home-office desks and study furniture

A desk that rocks or drawers that miss their runners make every day harder. We assemble home-office and study furniture, including sit-stand frames, cable trays and return desks, to the product instructions.

If a wall-hung desk or tall bookshelf needs fixing, we assess the wall rather than assume it will take the load.

  • Straight or corner desk with cable management
  • Pedestal drawers or a mobile under-desk unit
  • Study bookshelf or closed storage cupboard

Shelving and bookcases

A bookcase that is not anchored can become a tip hazard once it is loaded. We assemble freestanding and modular shelving and discuss anchoring honestly: some walls are suitable, some need a different fixing, and some are not appropriate for the unit you have bought.

For separate wall items such as picture hanging and small fittings, include their weights and positions in the same job list.

  • Tall bookcase that needs anti-tip brackets if the wall allows
  • Cube or modular shelving
  • Wall-mounted shelves only where the substrate can carry the load

Flat-pack and IKEA-style furniture

Much of the furniture we assemble is sold as a flat-pack: numbered boards, cam locks and a small bag of fittings. That includes IKEA-style products and kits from other retailers. Tradie at Door is not affiliated with IKEA or any furniture brand. We assemble the products you supply, using the instructions in the box.

If a hardware pack is incomplete, we pause rather than improvise a fitting that could fail later. You can leave cartons sealed.

How furniture assembly works

Send the pieces you need assembled, your suburb, and photos of the boxes or a partly finished unit. We confirm details, access and any wall-anchoring questions, then provide pricing before anything is booked.

On the day we assemble to the manufacturer’s instructions, check that the unit is square and usable, fit supplied wall hardware only where the wall is suitable, and tidy packaging as agreed.

Why professional assembly can save time

A wardrobe advertised as a short project can take a full afternoon once you unpack, sort hardware and correct a step. Flat-packs assume you have the right tools. A unit that is out of square, or a cam lock forced too early, can leave doors that rub and drawers that jam.

Professional assembly does not change the quality of the product you bought. It does mean the kit is built as the instructions intend.

Wall anchoring and furniture safety

Tall furniture can tip if it is not fixed, especially once it is loaded. We can fit supplied anti-tip straps or brackets where the wall and the unit are suitable.

We do not claim that all walls can be anchored. Plasterboard needs a sound stud or a fixing rated for the load. Brick and masonry need the right plug and depth. If we cannot find a safe fixing point, we will say so. Authorised renters should confirm permission before any wall fixing.

What information helps prepare a quote

List each item, the product name if you have it, and whether the boxes are still sealed. Photos of the cartons, the instruction cover and any partly built carcass are more useful than a long description.

If wall anchoring may be required, add a photo of the wall. Mention stairs, parking and whether the room is emptied. Landlords and property managers should include access instructions.

FAQs

Do I need to unpack the boxes first?

No. You can leave flat-packs sealed. We unpack them carefully on the day. Clear floor space in the room helps us work efficiently.

Do you assemble IKEA-style and other flat-pack brands?

Yes. We assemble IKEA-style furniture and kits from other retailers to the instructions supplied with the product. Tradie at Door is not affiliated with IKEA or any furniture brand.

Can you anchor furniture to the wall?

Yes, where the unit and the wall are suitable. Tell us the wall type if you know it. Not all walls can take the same fixing. If we cannot find a sound fixing point, we will say so on site.

What if parts are missing?

We bring standard hand tools and common fixings. If the manufacturer’s hardware pack is incomplete, we pause rather than improvise a fitting that could fail later.

Do you assemble furniture in rentals?

Yes. Authorised renters should have permission for any wall fixing. Landlords and property managers can include access notes in the request.

What should I send so you can quote?

A list of items, your suburb, and photos of the boxes, instruction cover or any partly built unit. Add the wall type if anchoring may be needed.
